Jul 11: Texas Tall Talents Admission: $8 donation Always a powerful and energetic performer, Karen Abrahams moves an audience with her vocal prowess and range of songwriting styles. Recognized for her hot bands & bluegrass vocals as well as blues vocals essentially from the git-go, her repertoire includes also swing, folk, rock, country, & even "70ish psychedelic music." Opening: Danny Britt KY native transplanted in TX (80) into the Austin "progressive folk" scene. Releases: Red DawgTexas Stuff and The Other Side.
Jul 25: Moonlight Magic Admission: $8 donation. Making beautiful music together since 1997, Albert & Gage (Christine and Chris) mount their musical horses and ride off together in all directions through bluegrass, country, oldies, jazz, & bayou music to Texas swing & French chansons guitar, piano, accordion unforgettable vocals made in heaven. Opening: Jim Photoglo, highly successful writer for Nashvilles Music Row as well as for film & TV engaging, captivating, potent performer one classic after another.
Aug 08: Old Favorites Jazzed to Taste Admission: $8 donation Slim Richey, a.k.a. Slim Smiles Two-toned Shoes Richey and "the most dangerous guitarist in Texas," leads a "dream band" with wife Francie Meaux Jeaux White on string bass and vocalist extraordinaire Lady Lacynica on impeccable vocals a very smooth, classy, and romantic sound. Opening: The Real Thing, an Arkansas trio of Dan Sieckman, Byron Yancey, & Jay Payette on guitar, bass, and drums mainstream jazz in the style of Charlie "Bird" Parker & Dizzy Gillespie.
Aug 22: Heartland Heritage Admission: $8 donation Performing "hand-me-down music" on stringed instruments such as fretted & hammered dulcimer, guitar, banjo, and autoharp as well as "found" instruments like bones, spoons, mouthbow and leaf, Cathy Barton & Dave Para have celebrated the musical traditions and folklife of Missouri & the Ozarks in festivals, clubs, concert halls, schools, and studios across the US & Europe for 25 years. Opening: Laurie McClain writes/sings with tenderness, vulnerability, hope unique, authentic.
Sep 12: Good Humor on a Mission Admission: $8 donation Since emerging as a Kerrville New Folk winner in 1987, David Roth has won national attention for his ultra-moving stories, unique songs, and powerful performance landslide winner of "most wanted to return" at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival (96) "a devastating combination of heartfelt wisdom and incisive wit." (Christine Lavin) Opening: Vikki McGee & Pat Henry, local lights with a repertoire from jazz standards to blues, pop, originals, and hymns keyboard and vocals.
Sep 26: Putting on a Clinic Admission: $8 donation In a career spanning four decades, Mike Dowling has gone from sideman, bandleader and session player to solo performer and composer of amazing versatility capturing hearts of acoustic music fans worldwide with his engaging voice, self-deprecating wit, and elegant arrangements of an arsenal of old blues, swing, ragtime, and original tunes arch top, flat top, and resonator guitar. Opening: Terry Farmer striking, winsome talent fusion of folk, classical guitar, rock & roll. *The Acoustic Sounds Cafe is a non-profit coffeehouse offering listener-oriented, acoustic music performances on 2nd & 4th Fridays monthly in Fellowship Hall at Second Presbyterian Church, 600 Pleasant Valley Dr., Little Rock.
